Zara Tindall will make a rare public appearance at a major royal-linked event next month when she attends the opening ceremony of the FEI World Championships in Aachen, Germany, on August 11. The prestigious competition is regarded as one of the biggest events on the international equestrian calendar.
Although Zara does not carry out official royal duties, her presence is expected to bring extra attention to the ceremony. She will be joined by Her Royal Highness the Princess of Orange of the Netherlands, while several European royal families are also expected to be represented.
As part of the opening celebrations, ceremonial carriages from the royal stables of Great Britain, the Netherlands and Denmark are set to be showcased. Her Royal Highness Elena de Borbón, Infanta of Spain, is also expected to attend the high-profile event.
Aachen holds special memories for Zara Tindall, making her return to the German venue even more meaningful. It was there, in 2006, that she claimed individual gold at the World Equestrian Games—one of the biggest achievements of her sporting career.
Welcoming the royal guests, Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein (ALRV) President Stefanie Peters said: “The visit of these high-ranking royal guests is a great honour – for the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein (ALRV), for the city, and above all for our spectators.

Stefanie Peters added: “You’re not just attending a world-class sporting event – you’re experiencing history, emotion, and spine-tingling moments live in the stadium. You can hardly get any closer to royal flair and the fascination of equestrian sports.”

The opening ceremony promises to be a spectacular occasion, featuring more than 250 horses in a series of impressive equestrian displays. Dance performances and live music will also form part of the celebrations as the championships officially get underway, with the event continuing through to August 23.
It has not yet been confirmed whether Zara’s husband, Mike Tindall, will join her for the ceremony, or if she plans to return for any of the competition days later in the championships.
A lifelong equestrian, Zara has always had a deep passion for horses and the sport, making her appearance at the prestigious event a particularly fitting one.
