All Eyes on Princess Kate as She Brings Festive Elegance to Sandringham

The Princess of Wales looked radiant as she led members of the British royal family at the Christmas Day church service at Sandringham on Thursday, 25 December. She attended alongside her husband, Prince William, and their three children — Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven.

It’s no surprise that the 43-year-old is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in modern royal fashion, celebrated for her support of British designers, confident use of colour and pattern, and preference for classic, timeless silhouettes.

It was therefore no surprise that she stole the spotlight on Christmas Day, stepping out in one of her most striking brown tartan coats — the BLAZÉ MILANO Lahloo Anyway midi coat, which she has now worn on four previous occasions.

She completed the look with a chocolate-brown fascinator adorned with a snowflake by Juliette Millinery, a brown-and-beige silk scarf wrapped neatly around her neck, and perfectly coordinated chocolate-brown boots that tied seamlessly into her headwear.

The Princess of Wales’s soft tartan ensemble served a dual purpose. Not only did the pattern offer a subtle nod to Scotland and its heritage, but the rich, dark tones also allowed her daughter to take centre stage.

Following Princess Charlotte’s piano performance at the Together at Christmas carol service on Friday, 5 December, it appears Kate may be using her fashion choices to gently signal that she is beginning to make space for the ten-year-old as she steps further into her public role.

Meanwhile, Prince William looked as polished as ever in a long navy overcoat, complemented by a festive scarf that coordinated beautifully with Kate’s look.

The children were also impeccably dressed for the occasion, with Princes George and Louis twinning with each other — and their father — in similar navy overcoats. Both boys paired their coats with crisp white shirts and smart, patterned navy ties.

Ten-year-old Princess Charlotte was the spitting image of her mother, opting for a noticeably lighter ensemble than the rest of the family. She wore a beautiful beige coat dress, accented with touches of brown at the collar and sleeves.

Princess Kate’s Christmas outfits this year

For her annual Together at Christmas carol service, held at Westminster Abbey on Friday, 5 December, the Princess of Wales began what would become an impressively elegant run of festive looks.

She wore a stunning forest-green coat dress by Catherine Walker — a designer renowned for her sharp tailoring, often favoured by leading diplomatic figures, and famously associated with her work for the late Princess Diana, Prince William’s mother.

Underneath the coat, the 43-year-old wore a skirt that royal style blogger @royal.fashion.daily identified on Instagram as a pleated wool tartan design from Miu Miu, embellished with evenly spaced crystals running from top to bottom. The luxury fashion house has dressed her in a number of festive looks since Christmas Day 2017.

By adding a crystal detail to a traditional tartan pattern, the skirt offered a fresh, modern twist on a classic festive style — perfectly reflecting the Princess of Wales’s fashion-forward approach to reinterpreting timeless pieces.

Constance Richardson, a fashion expert and luxury stylist, spoke to HELLO! about the Princess of Wales’s standout skirt and shared advice on how to recreate the look at home.

She said: “The Princess of Wales delivered a beautifully polished festive outfit, pairing her deep green Catherine Walker coat with a crystal-embellished Miu Miu tartan skirt that adds a subtle, modern shimmer to a classic check.”

Offering tips for achieving a similar look on a budget, Constance advised: “Begin with a simple tartan or pleated midi skirt, which is easy to find on the high street at this time of year. You can then add sew-on crystals or heat-fix gems along the pleats or waistband to achieve the same light-catching effect.”

A week and a half later, the Princess of Wales unveiled yet another festive look, continuing her impressive seasonal style streak at the royal pre-Christmas lunch hosted by King Charles at Buckingham Palace.

For the occasion, the mother of three chose a red satin bow dress by one of her go-to designers, Alessandra Rich, from the brand’s Autumn/Winter 2019 collection. The design featured a playful contrasting white print, adding an extra touch of festive cheer.
