Prince George has officially entered his teenage years!
The eldest son of Prince William and Princess Catherine looked noticeably grown up in the new portrait released by Kensington Palace to celebrate his 13th birthday on Wednesday.
Captured by the Wales family’s longtime photographer, Matt Porteous, the image shows George smiling while standing on the steps of Kensington Palace shortly after Trooping the Colour last month. Matt has also photographed Prince Louis for his eighth birthday, Princess Charlotte for her 11th birthday, and the beautiful family portrait released to mark William and Catherine’s wedding anniversary in May.
Looking remarkably like his father, Prince William, George wore a smart navy suit with a crisp white shirt, opting for a more relaxed look without the blue tie he wore at Trooping the Colour. The portrait comes as the young royal prepares to begin an exciting new chapter at secondary school.
The portrait was shared with the simple message: “Happy 13th Birthday, George!🎉”, accompanied by a party popper emoji.
Prince George is currently enjoying his summer break after completing his time at Lambrook School in Berkshire before beginning at Eton College this September.
With Eton operating as a full boarding school for boys, the young royal is preparing for a major new chapter, as he will live away from the family’s home at Forest Lodge in Windsor during term time.
The new portrait quickly sparked an outpouring of reactions from royal fans online. One person wrote, “How on Earth is he already 13?”, while another commented, “Where did the time go? You’re growing up right before our eyes.”

Prince George’s 13th birthday marks a new milestone for the Prince and Princess of Wales as they officially become parents to a teenager. His younger sister, Princess Charlotte, is 11, while Prince Louis is the youngest of the three at eight years old.
Prince George Alexander Louis, the future King, was born at 4:24pm on 22 July 2013 in the private Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London. He weighed 8lb 6oz at birth.
Just one day later, the newborn prince was introduced to the world on the hospital steps, wrapped in a white merino wool shawl as he was held proudly by his mother.
George spent the first months of his life in Anglesey, Wales, while Prince William was serving at the local RAF base, before the family later settled into Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace.

Prince George began his education at West Acre Montessori School Nursery in 2016 before enrolling at Thomas’s Battersea School, where he studied until 2022, when the Wales family relocated to Windsor.
To celebrate his 12th birthday last year, Kensington Palace released a portrait of George leaning over a wooden gate in Norfolk, dressed in a blue checked shirt and a navy gilet.
Over the past year, Prince George has noticeably shot up in height, often appearing taller than his mother during public appearances. His impressive growth has been particularly evident at events including the Easter service in Windsor, Trooping the Colour, and Wimbledon.

With just a few weeks to go before Prince George begins boarding school, Prince William and Princess Catherine are likely cherishing every moment they have together as a family while all three of their children are still at home.
The Wales family are making the most of the summer with plenty of quality time together, creating special memories, as seen during their appearance at the Wimbledon finals earlier this month.
