Prince William during an emotional radio appearance where he shared an update about Princess Kate

Prince William Gives Emotional Update on Princess Kate During Radio Interview

Prince William has said his family “couldn’t cope” without Catherine, Princess of Wales, as he paid a heartfelt tribute to his wife following her return to full public duties after her cancer treatment.

Speaking during an appearance on Heart Radio’s breakfast show, William described the Princess of Wales as “an amazing mum and an amazing wife,” adding that he was “so proud” of everything she has achieved during her recovery.

The future King appeared live from a café on the Isles of Scilly alongside presenters Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden.

During the wide-ranging interview, William joked about the chaos of the school run, discussed his love of dance music, weighed in on the famous scone debate, and even laughed about the possibility of receiving an invitation to Taylor Swift’s future wedding.

Relaxing with a mug of builder’s tea, the Prince also spoke warmly about Kate’s recent Italy visit, saying he was “very, very proud” of how successfully the trip had gone.

“She’s been amazing,” Prince William said of Catherine, Princess of Wales during his Heart Radio interview. “She’s been through so much in the last couple of years, particularly. She’d been looking forward to the Italian trip a lot, and so I’m really glad it went really well.”

William added with a smile: “She came back buzzing.”

During the two-day visit to Reggio Emilia, the Princess of Wales received an enthusiastic reception from local residents as she explored the city’s pioneering approach to early childhood education.

An aide previously described the trip as a “huge moment” for Catherine, whose cancer diagnosis in early 2024 was followed by six months of intensive chemotherapy treatment. The Italy visit marked her first overseas tour since her health battle, with hopes that more international engagements will follow later this year.

Reflecting on the emotional significance of the trip, presenter Jamie Theakston told William: “It must have been a difficult time back then with the kids as well and seeing her fulfill those duties must have made you very happy.”

“Yeah, very much so,” the Prince replied. “She’s an amazing mum and an amazing wife and literally our family couldn’t cope without her. So she has been absolutely stunning, really has.”

Prince William revealed that Catherine, Princess of Wales is gradually “edging herself back” into more overseas engagements following her cancer treatment, while stressing the importance of making sure she remains well-rested.

He explained that international tours can be physically demanding, saying they have to “make sure she’s OK and rested.”

During the interview, presenter Amanda Holden joked that balancing royal duties should also include “a glass of wine and some pasta on the sly,” adding that she hoped Kate had managed to enjoy both during the Italy trip. Laughing, William replied: “We all need a glass of wine every now and again, Amanda.”

The Prince took part in the radio appearance ahead of a visit to the Isles of Scilly Hospital, where he met staff and patients and officially opened a new medical facility designed to expand healthcare capacity across the islands.

The conversation also turned nostalgic as William reflected on childhood holidays there with his parents, King Charles III and Princess Diana, and how he now continues the tradition with his own children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

“It’s a place like no other,” William said. “It’s kind of a different world down here, it’s beautiful… The beaches are amazing; you can see the water is crystal clear. I mean, there is so much to do down here as a family. It’s fantastic!”

Discussing the chaos of the morning school run, Prince William admitted that getting everyone out the door on time—with the correct school kit—is not always easy, something many parents can relate to.

Speaking directly to his children during the broadcast, William joked: “Charlotte and Louis, because George is boarding last night, if you’re listening, make sure you’re on time, please. Make sure you’re not fighting over who’s listening to what this morning.”

Asked whether the children constantly snack in the car, the Prince laughed: “Yeah, there’s a lot of jam sandwiches taken in the car, usually. Louis will leave jam fingerprints through the car, which is really helpful.”

During the interview, William also shared some of his music picks for the morning playlist, including RAYE’s “Where Is My Husband?” and a Taylor Swift song for Princess Charlotte. He even admitted he was “hoping” for an invitation to Taylor Swift’s rumoured wedding to Travis Kelce this summer.

Elsewhere in the 40-minute conversation, the Prince weighed in on Britain’s famous scone debate, revealing he prepares them the “Devonian way.”

“I learned from my grandmother, and she would definitely, she would have the cream on first,” William explained.

The age-old rivalry between Devon and Cornwall continues over the correct order of cream and jam on a scone—with Cornwall insisting jam should go first, while Devon traditionally spreads the cream before adding jam on top.
