Many of Europe’s most glamorous royal women are known for having a distinctive fashion identity — from Queen Letizia’s polished mix of high fashion and high-street pieces to Queen Máxima’s bold, eclectic wardrobe. Yet few royals have a signature look quite as instantly recognisable as the Duchess of Edinburgh.

Monochrome dressing has become one of her trademarks. She frequently opts for head-to-toe looks in a single, striking colour — often delivering some of her most memorable style moments. Whether she’s wearing a sharply tailored colour-block suit or a dramatic statement dress, the 60-year-old consistently proves that monochrome can be anything but boring, elevating it into something truly eye-catching.

On Saturday, 17 January, the Duchess of Edinburgh appeared radiant at the UNA-UK conference marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. The event was held at Methodist Central Hall, the venue of the very first UN General Assembly.

Given the importance of the occasion, her look struck a careful balance between formality and understated elegance, ensuring the focus remained firmly on the conference itself.

For the event, the Duchess chose one of her most recognisable designs from a trusted designer, debuting it in a shade she has never previously worn in public. She wore the “Yahvi” midi dress by Beulah, a piece defined by its long sleeves with fluted cuffs, a fitted bodice, round neckline and an A-line skirt detailed with signature side buttons.

The silhouette is classic and refined — and clearly a favourite of the wife of Prince Edward, who owns the dress in five different colours. In May 2025, during the VE Day commemorations, she wore a pale blue version of the same design, styling it with a matching hat by Jane Taylor, baby-blue heels, a deep blue clutch, and a long silver-toned diamond necklace featuring a double-scroll gold and diamond pendant from Collins & Sons.

The previous month, she embraced the then-ubiquitous butter-yellow trend, wearing the “Yahvi” dress in a soft pastel yellow during a visit to a dementia research laboratory in Edinburgh. She completed the look with sparkling drop earrings and snakeskin-print wedge shoes by royal favourite L.K. Bennett.

In May 2024, the Duchess was photographed strolling across Abbey Road wearing a coral-toned version of the dress. She later unveiled the design in an elegant off-white shade during a meeting with the President and First Lady of Iraq.
