Prince William has appeared in a new, previously unseen photograph as he celebrates a double occasion this weekend.
The Prince of Wales is marking his 44th birthday today, while also celebrating Father’s Day with his three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
The newly released image, shared on social media, shows William with Princess Charlotte in the gardens of Kensington Palace following their return from Trooping the Colour. Accompanying the photograph was a heartfelt message: “Happy birthday and Father’s Day to the best Papa in the World! We love you very much. C, G, C & L.”
It is understood that William is spending the day privately at home with Catherine, Princess of Wales and their children.
Royal commentator Jennie Bond believes the celebrations are likely to be especially meaningful for the family. Speaking to the Mirror, the former BBC royal correspondent said: “I don’t think Catherine will have needed any excuse to make a fuss of her husband. The two of them have seemed closer than ever, and more open about their feelings, since her cancer diagnosis.”
She added: “A birthday and Father’s Day all wrapped up in one weekend will make for quite a big celebration — all focused on William. And I’m sure he will be lapping it up!”

Prince William’s birthday follows a busy week of public engagements. Last Saturday, he joined his family for Trooping the Colour, before taking part in the annual Order of the Garter Service on Monday.
William and Catherine, Princess of Wales also attended Royal Ascot on Wednesday, while the Prince carried out a series of engagements in Devon on Thursday.
Discussing possible gifts for William’s double celebration, royal commentator Jennie Bond suggested that Catherine and the children would have plenty of ideas.
“What you get for a man who has everything is anyone’s guess,” she said. “But I expect the children found some wacky, funny presents for him — perhaps something football-related or even a video game, as we know William enjoys gaming.”
She added that Catherine may have chosen something more romantic, alongside one of her famous homemade cakes, possibly even William’s favourite chocolate biscuit cake.
Bond also noted that William often speaks about thinking of his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, on a daily basis, suggesting that she was likely especially in his thoughts on his birthday.
Born at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington on 21 June 1982, Prince William arrived as the first child of the then Charles III and Diana, Princess of Wales. At just nine months old, he accompanied his parents on an official tour of Australia and New Zealand, breaking with royal tradition, which had typically seen young royal children remain at home in the care of nannies.
Diana, Princess of Wales, who separated from the then King Charles III in 1992, tragically died in a car crash in Paris in 1997. At the time, Prince William was 15 years old, while his younger brother, Prince Harry, was just 12. The two princes famously walked behind their mother’s coffin during her funeral procession through London.
William later met Catherine, Princess of Wales while studying at University of St Andrews in Fife. After dating for more than eight years, the couple married at Westminster Abbey in 2011.
The Prince and Princess of Wales welcomed their first child, Prince George, in 2013, followed by Princess Charlotte in 2015 and Prince Louis in 2018.
Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022, King Charles III announced in his first televised address as monarch that Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales would become the new Prince and Princess of Wales.
William has also experienced a well-documented rift with his younger brother, Prince Harry. Despite ongoing speculation about a possible reconciliation, there have so far been no public indications that the relationship has significantly improved.
