Catherine, Princess of Wales made a much-anticipated return to Royal Ascot alongside her husband, Prince William, on Wednesday during the second day of the prestigious five-day racing festival.
The Princess of Wales took part in the traditional royal carriage procession as she arrived at the Berkshire racecourse, smiling and waving to spectators gathered to welcome the royal party.
Catherine looked elegant in a vibrant yellow ensemble, a cheerful choice that stood out among the day’s fashion highlights and reflected the celebratory atmosphere of the event.
The appearance marked her third major public engagement in less than a week, following her participation in Trooping the Colour in London on Saturday and the annual Order of the Garter Service at St George’s Chapel on Monday.
Royal watchers noted that the Princess appeared relaxed and in high spirits throughout the occasion, continuing a busy run of engagements alongside senior members of the royal family.
Catherine, Princess of Wales’s appearance at Royal Ascot also marked the end of a three-year absence from the famous racing festival.
The return comes a year after the Princess unexpectedly withdrew from the event at the last minute in 2025, prompting widespread speculation at the time.
It was later understood that her non-attendance formed part of a carefully managed approach to resuming public duties following her cancer treatment. As she gradually increased her workload, Catherine and her advisers focused on finding the right balance between official engagements and her ongoing recovery.
Now in remission, the Princess has steadily returned to a fuller programme of royal duties, with recent appearances at Trooping the Colour and the Order of the Garter Service highlighting her increasingly active role within the monarchy.
Her appearance at Royal Ascot was therefore seen by many royal observers as another positive milestone in her return to public life and royal engagements.
Catherine, Princess of Wales looked stunning in a vibrant yellow dress by Roksanda Ilinčić, which she paired with an elegant hat by Jane Taylor during her appearance at Royal Ascot on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Prince William, who will celebrate his 44th birthday on Sunday, looked dapper in a tailored suit, perfectly complementing his wife’s ensemble with coordinating flowers in his buttonhole.
The royal couple appeared in high spirits as they waved to the crowds from their carriage before settling in to enjoy the day’s racing action.
The Wales family have enjoyed a busy week, beginning with their appearance at Trooping the Colour in London on Saturday, followed by the annual Order of the Garter Service on Monday.
It was also confirmed on Tuesday that their eldest son, Prince George, will begin attending Eton College this September.
King Charles III and Camilla, Queen Consort led the royal procession in the first carriage, joined by the King’s cousin, Lady Sarah Chatto, and her husband, Daniel Chatto.
Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales travelled in the second carriage alongside Charles Gordon-Lennox and Sally Gordon-Lennox.
In the third carriage were Rory Stewart and his wife, Shoshana Stewart, together with Lady Sarah Keswick and Fiona Petty-Fitzmaurice, both close companions of Camilla, Queen Consort.
The royal party received a warm welcome from spectators as their carriages passed the packed grandstands, with racegoers cheering as they awaited the first race of the day at Royal Ascot.
Although she did not take part in the royal carriage procession, Anne, Princess Royal looked elegant in pink as she joined fellow racegoers at Royal Ascot.
The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh were аlso in attendance.
The Princess’s attendance was only confirmed by organisers around two hours before the event began, while Prince William is expected to present the trophy to the winner of the Prince of Wales’s Stakes later in the afternoon, one of the most prestigious races at Royal Ascot.
When the carriages arrived at the parade ring, where jockeys prepare to mount their horses and winning connections are welcomed, Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales stepped down from their carriage.
As they greeted the royal party, Catherine performed a curtsey to her father-in-law, King Charles III.
The Princess was then seen chatting with Camilla, Queen Consort, while William mingled with other guests gathered at Royal Ascot.
HELLO!’s racing expert, Charlie Atkin, shared his thoughts on the royal runners ahead of day two of Royal Ascot.
“While yesterday’s royal runner may have fallen short, the King and Queen have another strong contender on day two,” he said. “Point Of Law lines up in the Queen’s Vase at 3.05pm for King Charles III and Camilla, Queen Consort, a race famously won by the late Queen Elizabeth II with Estimate in 2012.”
Atkin noted that Point Of Law has raced only twice so far, recording a second-place finish and a victory, and suggested the horse could be a strong each-way contender if it handles the longer distance.
On the opening day of Royal Ascot, the King and Queen were in attendance, but their hopes of a winner were dashed when their runner was beaten.
They were joined by Anne, Princess Royal, her son Peter Phillips and his new wife, Harriet Sperling. Other guests included Tom Parker Bowles, the son of Queen Camilla.
