Princess Kate during a nature-focused moment on day two of her Italy visit

Princess Kate Sparks David Attenborough Comparisons During Italy Visit

Catherine, Princess of Wales was all smiles yesterday during the opening day of her Italy visit, receiving huge cheers and applause as she arrived at the Town Hall for her official civic welcome.

The Princess is undertaking the solo trip to highlight the importance of early childhood development and to learn more about the renowned Italian educational philosophy known as the Reggio Emilia approach.

Day two of the visit is already underway, with Catherine stepping out at Salvador Allende Pre-School, where outdoor learning plays a central role in children’s education.

The 44-year-old looked effortlessly elegant in a pinstriped blazer by Blazé Milano, paired with a flowing dress featuring a pleated beige skirt and heels by Camilla Elphick. As on the previous day, she wore her signature mermaid-style waves loose around her shoulders.

Ahead of her arrival, Kensington Palace teased the day’s programme on Instagram, writing: “Day two in Reggio Emilia, where approaches to early learning come to life across schools, ateliers, and community spaces shaped by creativity and shared care.”

The message continued: “Here, attuned and attentive caregivers, alongside nature as ‘the third teacher’, nurture an immense sense of connection in the children, which is so crucial in the early years and beyond.”

More memorable moments from the Princess’s visit—including a hands-on encounter with an animal—are expected to follow throughout the day.

David Attenborough mоment

Catherine, Princess of Wales once again showed her love of nature during a visit to the preschool, calmly holding a newt so the children could admire it during outdoor playtime.

Royal editor Emily Nash, who is accompanying the trip, described how the moment unfolded.

The children guided the Princess to a pond area, where Stefano Sturloni—atelierista for gardens and nature at the city’s Preschool and Infant-Toddler Centres Institution—introduced them to a tank containing several newts.

Kate happily joined in, gently handling one of the creatures alongside the children, telling Stefano: “In most urban areas, even in central London, we have newts like this. It’s extraordinary, if you look and spend time, you realise how close it is to you.”

She also referenced David Attenborough, adding: “David Attenborough says you have to be able to experience nature in order to protect it – it’s so true.”
