Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis have someone very special to celebrate today — their mother, the Princess of Wales. Like many families across the UK, the Wales household will be marking Mother’s Day, with Kate likely enjoying a well-deserved day of pampering.
Alongside Kate, the children will probably also be thanking their grandmother Carole Middleton, who has played an important role in their lives and offered strong support to the family following Kate’s cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy treatment.
They may also be remembering their other grandmother, Prince William’s late mother, Princess Diana.

Although she never had the chance to meet her grandchildren, William has previously spoken about how he tells his three children about their grandmother. A few years ago, on Mother’s Day, he also shared cards the children had made for Diana — including one from Charlotte that carried a particularly heartfelt message.
Charlotte’s note appeared on a fuchsia-coloured card decorated with a hand-drawn, multi-coloured heart. In the message, she also mentioned how much her father misses his mother.
She wrote: “Dear Granny Diana, I am thinking of you on mother’s day. I love you very much. Papa is missing you. Lots of love Charlotte xxxxxxxxx”.
Meanwhile, her older brother George wrote his message in cursive on a bright green card, saying: “Dear granny Diana, Happy happy Mother’s Day. I love you very much and think of you always, sending lots of love from George xxxxx.”
Louis, who was only two at the time, also made a Mother’s Day card using green paper. His creation featured a colourful heart surrounded by several animal stickers placed around the design.
The cards were later shared on the official Twitter account of the Prince and Princess of Wales, where four photos were posted along with a touching message.

In the 2017 documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, William spoke openly about making sure his children grow up knowing about their late grandmother. He explained that he wants them to “know who she was and that she existed” and shared that he “constantly” talks to them “about Granny Diana” at bedtime so they understand that “there are two grandmothers in their lives”.
The future king said: “We’ve got more photos up around the house now of her and we talk about her a bit.” He added: “It’s hard because obviously Catherine didn’t know her so she cannot really provide that level of detail, so I regularly put George and Charlotte to bed, talk about her and just try to remind them that there are two grandmothers, there were two grandmothers in their lives. So it’s important that they know who she was and that she existed.”
In recent years, William has also worked to honour his mother’s legacy by launching a personal campaign aimed at tackling homelessness. He has said that Diana’s compassion inspired the initiative and motivated him to teach his own children about the issue.

Speaking in a landmark television documentary, William reflected on the influence his mother had on him. “My mother introduced me to homelessness a long time ago,” he said.
He continued: “I have taken some inspiration and guidance from what my mother did, particularly with homelessness.”
“That has grown more over the last few years. When I was very small my mother started talking about homelessness – much like I do now with my children on the school run.”
Following in his mother’s footsteps, William took his eldest son, George, to The Passage homelessness charity in London late last year. During the visit, they helped create care packages and decorated a Christmas tree.
