An insider has claimed that Prince Harry’s assertion that Prince William physically attacked him during a heated disagreement was greatly exaggerated.
Sources close to the Prince of Wales described Harry’s version of events — linked to a confrontation about Meghan’s treatment of palace staff — as a massively overblown incident and dismissed it as a cheap shot.
A new biography, William and Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story, written by The Mirror’s royal editor Russell Myers, reportedly presents new perspectives from individuals familiar with the situation, casting doubt on the claims Harry made in his memoir Spare.
The allegation that the brothers became physically involved after William confronted Harry about Meghan being described as difficult and abrasive toward royal staff was among the most controversial revelations in the autobiography.

The Duke of Sussex alleged that the confrontation took place at his former residence, Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace, claiming William seized him by the collar and pushed him to the ground, breaking his necklace and cracking a dog bowl beneath him when he fell.
While William has never publicly addressed the allegations, the biography William and Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story includes testimony from a source disputing Harry’s version of events.
The source stated: It was a cheap shot [from Harry] to present such an argument. Tensions were running very high, and yes, there certainly were cross words exchanged that on reflection were regrettable, but the prince [William] is adamant there was no physical violence.
In his memoir Spare, Harry also claims William repeated negative tabloid narratives about Meghan, which contributed to the dispute. However, another source quoted in the book argues that staff members had become deeply strained while working for the Sussexes.
As the source explained: It wasn’t peddling a tabloid narrative to stick up for staff that were deeply unhappy to the point of walking away or having their mental health being affected.
In The Mirror’s exclusive serialisation of the new biography, it is also disclosed that the Princess of Wales showed less urgency than Prince William in attempting to prevent the Duke and Duchess of Sussex from stepping away from royal duties, as she believed Harry’s decision to leave his role was inevitable.
Further details reveal that the future Queen eventually accepted that she could do no more to bring the brothers together, despite previously acting as a voice of reason as their relationship steadily deteriorated.
The biography, currently available for pre-order, also reports that William pushed for his uncle Andrew to be removed from royal duties immediately following the fallout from his 2019 BBC Newsnight interview.
It further sheds light on how William and Kate truly reacted to the Sussexes stepping back from royal life, while also offering previously unknown insight into how the Princess of Wales coped with the shock of her cancer diagnosis.
The book also traces the journey of the Prince and Princess of Wales from their first meeting at St Andrews University to the present day, exploring how they have worked to shape a modern monarchy and ensure its stability during a period of major change and uncertainty.
Myers explained that after nearly a decade covering the Prince and Princess of Wales as part of the royal press corps, he has long believed there is far more to the couple than what is publicly seen.
He said: I’ve spent almost a decade following The Prince and Princess of Wales as part of the Royal pack and have always believed there’s so much more to the couple than the spectacle reveals. The result of this biography is a truly intimate portrait of William and Catherine; providing not just unparalleled insight into who they are as individuals, but seismic revelations about them as a couple and the world they inhabit.
He added that the book goes beyond media headlines, focusing on their relationship, strength, and shared journey as they balance public responsibilities during a period of extraordinary change.
As he concluded: This biography moves beyond the headlines as it explores love, resilience, and their journey together as they navigate their public duties amid this unprecedented era.
