Princess Kate Shares Rare Family Photo to Shine a Light on a Cause Close to Her Heart

The Princess of Wales and Prince William have delighted royal fans by releasing a previously unseen family photograph to celebrate Mountain Rescue Awareness Day.

The royal couple shared the touching image on Instagram on Sunday, offering followers a glimpse of Catherine’s Three Peaks Challenge, which she completed in June.

The special photograph features the Prince and Princess of Wales together with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, capturing a memorable family moment.

Alongside the picture, William and Catherine paid tribute to the dedicated volunteers who help protect people exploring Britain’s mountainous landscapes.

In their heartfelt message, the future King and Queen wrote:

“On Mountain Rescue Awareness Day, we send our heartfelt thanks to all those who volunteer their time and expertise to keep people safe in some of our most beautiful but challenging landscapes.

Continuing their message, the Prince and Princess of Wales reflected on their personal experiences with mountain rescue volunteers, highlighting the commitment and care shown by those who provide assistance in challenging conditions.

The royal couple wrote:

“Through our connection with this remarkable organisation, we have seen first-hand the dedication, professionalism and compassion that define their work.

They also recalled meeting rescue teams during the Three Peaks Challenge earlier this summer, when they had the opportunity to express their gratitude directly.

“Meeting local mountain rescue teams during the Three Peaks Challenge this summer was an opportunity to say thank you in person for the vital role they play in keeping walkers and climbers safe on the mountains all year round.

The Prince and Princess of Wales concluded their tribute by recognising the bravery and selflessness of mountain rescue volunteers, who frequently put themselves in difficult situations to assist people facing emergencies.

They expressed their admiration for those who remain ready to respond at short notice, regardless of the weather or terrain.

The couple wrote:

“We are incredibly proud to support the extraordinary volunteers who respond in all conditions, often at a moment’s notice, to help others when they need it most. To everyone across the mountain rescue community, thank you for your unwavering commitment, courage and service.”

William and Catherine ended their message with their initials, “W & C”.

Mountain Rescue Awareness Day is intentionally observed on the date when clocks are turned back, marking the beginning of earlier evenings and shorter daylight hours.

The timing serves as an important reminder for walkers, hikers and climbers to prepare carefully before venturing into mountainous areas during the colder months.

Organisers encourage people to carry appropriate safety equipment, including a torch, and to take changing weather conditions and reduced daylight into account when planning outdoor activities.

The closе-knit Middletons also supportеd Catherine when she completеd the Three Peaks Challengе

Prince William serves as Royal Patron of Mountain Rescue England, an organisation whose volunteers provide vital assistance to people experiencing difficulties in mountainous and remote locations.

His wife, the Princess of Wales, demonstrated her own commitment to the cause earlier this year by taking part in the demanding Three Peaks Challenge.

Catherine undertook the challenge to support the hospital where she received cancer treatment, describing the experience as a “chance to explore life beyond diagnosis and to give something back”.

The fundraising event involves reaching the summits of the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales within a single day.

Through her participation, the Princess helped raise funds and awareness for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, which supports people affected by cancer.

Sharing a photograph of herself standing at the summit of Ben Nevis, Catherine reflected on the emotional and psychological impact of receiving a cancer diagnosis.

In a personal message published on social media, she wrote:

“Cancer doesn’t just affect the body. It changes how you think and feel and profoundly affects every aspect of life.

Drawing on her own experience of cancer treatment, the Princess of Wales emphasised that recovery involves much more than addressing the physical effects of the disease.

Catherine acknowledged the emotional challenges that can continue throughout treatment and beyond, highlighting the importance of providing patients with comprehensive support.

She explained:

“I know this personally, and that the journey through and beyond treatment requires more than medicine alone.”

The Princess went on to describe the wider purpose behind her participation in the Three Peaks Challenge, explaining that she hoped to draw attention to the often-overlooked effects of serious illness.

She continued:

“Through this challenge, I want to raise awareness for the deeper impact of serious illness and the importance of holistic healthcare.

“Every individual is different, and ensuring there is a whole person approach to care enables those living through cancer to manage the deeply personal challenge of diagnosis.

The Princess’s family werе incredibly proud of hеr

The Princess of Wales concluded her reflections by emphasising the value of complementary therapies alongside conventional medical treatment, particularly when helping cancer patients cope with the physical and emotional challenges of their illness.

Catherine explained that these additional forms of support can play an important role in preserving patients’ wellbeing and helping them navigate an exceptionally challenging period in their lives.

She wrote:

“Holistic therapies complement clinical pathways and support patients’ ability to maintain their wellbeing, resilience and quality of life during an exceptionally difficult time.”
